ReplyDeleteThis comments section is full of ignorant people who do not know what they are talking about. Brigadier General Robert Edward Lee did not in fact lose all the battles. What you are trying to say is that he lost the civil war. Wars and battles are different. Wars are a group of battles. Google's definition of a battle is, "a sustained fight between large, organized armed forces." A group of ^those^ is a war. Google's definition of a War is, "a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state." In the civil war, he won 9 battles. He lost Gettysburg, Petersburg, and Appomattox.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at all 7 Full Generals of the Confederacy Lee hardly ever left the confines of Va. The 2 major battles Antienam was a draw, and loss Gettysburg. Most battles and defenses were done by the other Generals who had to cover the other 12 states of the Confederacy. Lee's ragged Army of North Virginia was trying to escape to meet with Johnson in North Carolina when Grant boxed him in. Four weeks earlier Gen Kirby Smith and Gen Beauregard told Davis the war was finished. He refused to listen and told Lee to continue the fight.
